Things are not as they were.
Whether we like it or not, information and energy would be the commodities of the future.
Being online no more means you are sitting alone on a pc or mac.Being online these days you are part of a group. And this group can be up to several millions.
Whether it`s good or bad that interaction between people is taking a sharp turn from face-to-face to keyboard-to-keyboard and blogging.
The online networks are still web 2.0 features. But that won`t last long,as web 3.0 is pushing through.
Countless numbers of online networks operate in this very moment. There only few, however, that are worth-signing in and using.
The list below is one based on my own research and experience, anyone can add his/her own opinion about it.But,as to me,if you are not a member of at least 2 of these, you are lagging behind. And believe me,sooner or later you`ll feel it.
But let us get to the point here:
Business communities:
1.Xing(
https://www.xing.com)

Founded in 2003.Available in 16 languages.Number of subscribers-more than 400 000.
Some of the main features are:creating your own profile, sending messages, creating groups, posting articles, looking for jobs around the world, getting in contact with representatives of 90% of world`s biggest and famous companies. Also being part of this network, you are part of a society of professionals. No more spam, stupidity talks as in the Bulgarian type dating websites and most blogs. You can also plan events, organize them and successfully build whole marketing campaigns using the xing platform.
I did,and it works.Try getting in touch with CEOs from Spain over the phone and email. It`s hard I know. But not in Xing, not at all.People are there for business, and if you interest them, there is much business to do.
2.LinkedIn(
http://www.linkedin.com)

Another professional website. The biggest actually.Huge opportunities here.Again there are the groups, profiles, messages. But there is more.LinkedIn has several unique features. One of them is the questions.Ever wanted a professional with 20 years experience to answer a question of business matter?LinkedIn is the place to get it done.Thousands of questions, thousands of answers, and if you are a smart brain, and receive points for giving best answers, sometimes your cv might look small compared to your linkedin status.
You can look for jobs,of course. Many postings here. But more important, you can get recommended.People can recommend you as a person and professional. So what?
Well, believe me,20 recommendations based on your answers in the website can be worth more than any recommendation from an employer.Let alone,it`s a rare opportunity to have some good words about you from the best in business.
And many more.Linkedin actually has some paid functions, that make you forget about googlemail, yahoo, abv etc. Some of them are paid of course.
And here`s the interesting part. You can just talk to any member. You got to have a connection to her/him.There are ways to do that, but you got to use your head.Anyway, there the best place to be for a true professional.
3.Plaxo Pulse(
www.plaxo.com)
Well, another new business networking tool.Growing.It has most of the feature of Xing, but is not so widely used as it.Give it a try, though, you might find it the best place for you.
4.Ecademy(
www.ecademy.com)

Another interesting one. From Scandinavia.Pretty useful, too.A bit messy though. If you are active in internet, this is the place to be,it seems as this website is not big,but generates the traffic of youtube. Most features of a professional online network are to be found here.
5.Zentrica(
www.zentrica.net)

This is for the real estate professionals.A small Spanish network, huge potential in it.
Got to be in it,if you are involved in the real estate business.A good feature-you can post offers with photos.Something xing and linkedin does not allow.
Go check it out
Now,let`s have some fun...
6.Facebook(
www.facebook.com)

Number one,at the moment.Got it all.Used to be a fun place, but gets more professional by the minute.Groups, photos, videos you name it.If you are not in it-shame on you,you are living in a cave. And by the way,
Keeping an eye on the elections in the USA.One of the candidates used facebook in his campaign. And raised awareness in such amounts, any PR manager could only dream of.And money, too!
Keep that in mind when you think facebook is still for nerds, mostly.
6.Myspace(
www.myspace.com)

The ex-king,surpassed by Facebook.Music,music,music.Lots of music, lots of people, lots of artists there. You can build your own profile,actually-your page, html codes are to be found everywhere on the web.You wanna look cool on the web, take a tour in myspace and build a profile of yours to show-off with. And chat with your favourite dj,he/she is 100% there.
7.Vkontakte(
http://vkontakte.ru)

Well,what can I say-the russian facebook.Looks the same,tastes the same.
But,there is always one "but" with Russians. There are virtually no restrictions here-upload any photo, video or audio.Any.Brutal.Naked people on every fifth picture and porn videos all the time.I don`t know how they achieved this,as they should stand a trial every day for the rest of their lifes as administrators of such a website. And yes-it`s huge, more than 18 000 000 members have signed up for it since it was created.
So,I believe this is enough for now.
By the way, youtube already surpasses google`s traffic.Imagine that.
But let`s leave this for part 2,which is coming soon.
